Traffic stop leads to felony drug charges

On Behalf of | Jan 17, 2022 | Drug Crimes

It may come as no surprise that being accused of involvement in drug-related activity can be a stressful and harrowing experience. Those who face drug charges might not always be aware of their legal rights and available options and they may be uncertain of how best to approach the situation. A woman in Florida might be in search of guidance after a recent traffic stop has left her facing numerous felony drug charges.

The incident

According to reports, the incident began on a recent Friday after authorities claim to have encountered a driver with an active arrest warrant. They proceeded to initiate a routine traffic stop soon thereafter and say that the driver was placed under arrest. Reports indicate that authorities also brought a K-9 unit out to the scene to investigate and state that the K-9 suggested that there were illegal substances inside the vehicle.

Authorities assert that a subsequent search of the vehicle unearthed the presence of various types and quantities of illegal drugs. Some of the pills uncovered during this process allegedly tested positive for the substance fentanyl. Reports indicate that the woman is facing numerous felony charges following the traffic stop, including drug trafficking and possession.

Facing drug charges

A conviction for felony drug charges carries serious penalties that could have a lingering impact on one’s life. Those who stand accused of similar offences may benefit from retaining the services of an attorney as soon as possible for advice on their available options and assistance in forming a strong defense for use during court proceedings. If a conviction cannot be avoided, an attorney in Florida can assist a client in preparing to pursue the most favorable outcome possible given the circumstances.
