SUV hit and killed motorcyclist in Port St. Lucie

On Behalf of | Sep 3, 2021 | Personal Injury

Law enforcement authorities in Florida are currently in the process of investigating an auto collision that left one person dead and another injured. This accident involving an SUV and a motorcyclist occurred in Port St. Lucie on Saturday, Aug. 7. If driver negligence contributed to this incident, the victims surviving family members may be entitled to seek compensation through legal means.

What happened?

According to reports, a 23-year-old male was driving his motorcycle through the intersection of SW Dalton Circle and SW Port St. Lucie Boulevard when the driver of an SUV — a 68-year-old male — turned in front of him. The two vehicles collided, killing the motorcyclist. The driver of the SUV was injured and taken to an area hospital for treatment.

The investigation

Investigators have not released the identities of those involved in this accident to the public. They have also failed to mention what factors may have led to the crash — such as distracted driving or intoxication. It is unclear if the driver of the SUV will be facing any criminal charges. The investigation is still ongoing.

Wrongful death claim

While there are many unknowns in this particular case, if driver negligence can be established, the motorcyclists family members may be entitled to pursue a wrongful death claim against the driver of the SUV. In doing so, they may achieve full or at least partial compensation for the monetary losses they have endured as a result of this accident, as well as some relief for their emotional suffering. An attorney with experience handling such cases can help them file the appropriate claims in a Florida civil court and seek to resolve the situation quickly through either negotiation or litigation.
