The Florida Highway Patrol is in the process of investigating a car accident that left a woman dead and two teenagers injured. This crash occurred Thursday, June 17, in St. Lucie County. It is unclear if any criminal charges will be filed against the driver responsible.
According to reports, the victim — a 76-year-old woman — was operating her vehicle southbound on Old Dixie Highway, near Julian Drive, when her car was struck by a sedan, also traveling in the southbound lane. For reasons unknown, the driver of the sedan lost control of his vehicle and hit the back end of the victim’s car, causing her to spin out. Shortly after the event, she was transported to an area hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
The driver responsible
The driver responsible is said to be an 18-year-old male. A 19-year-old female was in the passenger seat of his car. After hitting the victim’s car, his vehicle struck a tree. Both he and his passenger suffered minor injuries. No other information about these individuals has been released to the public.
Compensation for the victim’s family
There is nothing easy about losing a loved one, especially when it happens so unexpectedly like it did in this case. The surviving family members of this elderly woman are left dealing with the aftermath of this event while also working on processing their grief. While nothing can replace the life lost, they can at least seek relief for the financial losses resulting from this tragedy. An experienced personal injury attorney can help them negotiate fair settlement terms with insurance or, if necessary, litigate the matter in a Florida civil court.
