Police in Florida recently arrested the man they believe is responsible for a hit-and-run collision that occurred in Nov. 2019. He has since been charged with leaving the scene of a crash, driving under the influence and manslaughter. Now that this individual has been identified, the family members of the victim may be able to seek compensation for their losses by filing a wrongful death claim against the accused.
According to reports, on Nov. 26 last year at approximately 2:45 p.m., an 88-year-old man was operating his motorcycle eastbound on Kanner Highway, by Cove Road, when he was from behind. The driver responsible failed to call for help or remain at the scene. When the victim was found, he was promptly transported to an area hospital for treatment, but he later succumbed to his injuries.
On Monday, Sept. 28, police arrested a 35-year-old male who they believe caused this crash. It is unclear what led investigators to this individual. He was booked into the Martin County Jail but has since been released on bond. Court dates regarding this matter have not been reported.
It has likely been a long 10 months for the victim’s family members as they have been waiting for the individual responsible for their loved one’s death to be identified. Hopefully, this news has given them some newfound hope, as they now may have someone to hold accountable for their losses. With the assistance of counsel, a claim may be filed in a Florida civil court in an effort to seek relief for any economic and noneconomic damages experienced as a result of this collision.
