Peer Review Assessment – Respected attorney evaluation company Martindale Hubbell, has given Richard Kibbey, Esq. the highest rating of “AV” for several years.
During a career as a lawyer (36 years practicing law) Richard D. Kibbey, Esq., has handled a wide range of criminal and injury cases on the treasure coast.
The Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Rating system is the gold standard for evaluating an attorney’s abilities. Year in and year out, Mr. Kibbey continues to achieve rankings as AV Preeminent—meaning judges and his fellow attorneys rate his legal accomplishments, ethics and abilities as the highest level of professional excellence.
A Magna Cum Laude graduate of Adrian College, and a graduate of the University of Detroit School of Law, Mr. Kibbey developed his love for trial work while clerking for Michigan’s preeminent criminal defense lawyer, Neal Fink.
Upon graduating law school, Mr. Kibbey prosecuted criminal cases in Metropolitan Detroit before moving to the Treasure Coast in 1978, to accept a position as an Assistant State Attorney to prosecute criminal cases in Stuart, Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Vero Beach. As a Treasure Coast prosecutor, Mr. Kibbey honed his skills of comprehensively researching cases and persuasively presenting facts to judges and juries. His talents resulted in a trial record as a prosecutor of losing only one felony trial in the four years he prosecuted cases for the State of Florida.
In 1982 Mr. Kibbey entered private practice and began to represent those accused of crimes and those seriously hurt by the negligence of others. In the subsequent 36 years, Mr. Kibbey has helped citizens in a wide range of cases—from murder accusations to boating fatalities—achieving verdicts and settlements in some of the Treasure Coast’s most noted cases. National media, including CBS, Court TV and the New York Times, among others, have profiled cases he’s litigated.
While national media may have helped bolster his reputation, Mr. Kibbey’s greatest satisfaction is in helping citizens of Stuart, Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie seek justice in their criminal or injury case. Mr. Kibbey is proud to have worked with such notable attorneys as Roy Black and Willie Gary, as his association with famed forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee. Dr. Lee later featured a case he and Kibbey worked on in the bestselling book, Cracking More Cases.
Three decades of practicing law, and trying a wide variety of cases, has expanded Richard Kibbey’s understanding of the law, and provided him a perspective into cases, litigation strategies and winnable solutions. Richard fervently believes that there simply is no substitute for experience—particularly when potentially life-changing consequences hang in the balance.
Besides his love of law, Mr. Kibbey enjoys time with his wife and family as well as helping his Alma Mater Adrian College where he sits on the College’s Board of Trustees.
For hobbies, Mr. Kibbey enjoys watching and writing about Classic Hollywood cinema. His 2012 book on film icon Pat Boone; Pat Boone: The Hollywood Years, received warm reviews and led to speaking engagements in Hollywood and on National TV shows.
