Richard D. Kibbey

Picture
Carving an impressive career from his 30 plus years of practicing law, Richard D. Kibbey is considered by many to be the Treasure Coast’s premier trial attorney.

A magna cum laude graduate of Adrian College, and the University of Detroit School of Law, Mr. Kibbey developed his love for trial work while clerking for Michigan’s pre-eminent criminal defense lawyer, Neal Fink.

Upon graduating law school, Mr. Kibbey prosecuted criminal cases in Metropolitan Detroit.  In 1978 he moved to Florida to accept a position as an Assistant State Attorney for Florida’s Treasure Coast, which includes Stuart, Fort Pierce, Port St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Vero Beach.  As a Treasure Coast prosecutor,  Mr. Kibbey honed his skills of researching a case and persuasively presenting cases to judges and juries.  His talents resulted in an impressive trial record as a prosecutor:  he lost only one felony trial in the four years he held that position.

In 1982 Mr. Kibbey opened his law office and began to represent those accused of crimes and those seriously hurt by the negligence of others.  In the subsequent 26 years since entering private practice, Mr. Kibbey has been hired to help citizens in a wide range of cases, from murder to boating fatalities, achieving impressive verdicts and settlements in some of the Treasure Coast’s biggest cases.  National media, including CBS, Court TV and the New York Times have profiled cases he has handled.

While national media may have helped form his reputation, Mr. Kibbey’s greatest satisfaction is in helping the citizens of Stuart, Fort Pierce and Port St. Lucie meet the challenges of their criminal or injury case.

Mr. Kibbey is proud to have assisted notable attorneys such as Roy Black and Willie Gary in Treasure Coast cases .  His association with famed forensic scientist Dr. Henry Lee helped secure a dismissal of all charges for a Port St. Lucie woman accused of murdering her boyfriend. Dr. Lee later featured that case and the work of Mr. Kibbey in his bestselling book Famous Crimes Revisited.

Three decades of practicing law and trying cases has given Richard Kibbey an insight which allows him to see a case and its solution from a perspective different than many attorneys may see.  There is simply not a substitute for experience.
